The following procedure is for performing scheduled monthly preventative maintenance on the M‑AERI. All results are recorded on the PM checklist.

Physical check of instrument

Inspection of internal components

Open the access panel to the back-end of the instrument. Inspect the AERI back-end for damage and debris or precipitation accumulation. Clear any debris or precipitation accumulation. Close the access panel. If in a marine environment, purge the back-end with nitrogen gas or dry air (see instructions).

Inspection of ambient blackbody (ABB)

Remove the front-end enclosure (see instructions). Remove the ABB. Inspect inside the ABB with a flashlight for water, debris, sea salt accumulation. Replace the ABB, ensuring that it’s flush with the alignment buttons. Replace the front-end enclosure.
