Schwerdtfeger Library Highlights, 2003
Get
the Drift? On Wisconsin Features Bentley
- On Wisconsin,
the University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni magazine, very appropriately features The
Bentley Collection in its Winter 2003 edition where it is described accurately
and cleverly.
- When you view the front page of the Bentley site, you'll also notice that
it is being evaluated for inclusion in the Digital
Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) Reviewed Collection. If
you use the site, please consider submitting a review. The information
you provide
via the Community Review System may
be used by us to improve the quality of the resource; by other learners
and educators
to figure out whether they would like to use the resource and by the Community
Review System editors to decide which resources to include in the DLESE
Reviewed Collection.
- And still related, Jean Phillips presented the Bentley project goals, design
and technical considerations in a panel discussion at the Atmospheric
Science Librarians International (ASLI)
conference in February 2003. It is held in conjunction with the annual
AMS conference.
The Schwerdtfeger Library Goes High Tech
Compact, power assisted, moveable shelving was installed in the Schwerdtfeger
Library this fall. This type of shelving has increased capacity about 60% in
the journals section and 45% in the documents section while dramatically enhancing
the look of the space.

Records in MadCat
As of December 1 there are 10,096 of the Library's records in MadCat. That's
roughly half of the library's document collection.. Of those, 75-80%
are unique to this library. And most of the 4200 records
added during 2003 required original cataloging.
