Current Conditions

RIG Station Model The little image on the Local Weather page (shown on the left) is a station model plot showing the current conditions as measured by a weather station on the top of our building (the AO&SS building on the UW-Madison campus in Wisconsin). The similar image on the "All Local Weather Resources" page shows the current conditions at the Dane County airport in Madison, WI. » How to read the station model plot.

Some quick facts about the AO&SS (often called the RIG instrument or simply just the RIG) weather observations:

  • Weather Station Station Elevation: 327.54 m above sea-level to pressure sensor (picture)
  • The pressure reported is adjusted to sea-level elevation using a standard atmosphere profile.
  • More information

Sky Cover

The "Sky/Weather" for the AO&SS station is Not Available because, currently, we do not have a way of measuring either cloud cover or current weather at the AO&SS building on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. You can click on the link labeled "Dane County Airport" on the Local Weather page to see the current conditions at the Dane County Airport in Madison, WI - this station does measure sky cover and current weather.
