Term Definition
absorbing gases primary gases that absorb and emit radiation at the central wavelength
band number given to the wavelength channel of the satellite data
B-sector data covering Europe, northern Africa, and the eastern Atlantic
central wavelength wavelength falling in the middle of the band over which the satellite collects data
primary uses examples of how a band is used in physical applications
sounding level average level where most of the radiant energy sensed by the satellite originates, assuming a cloud-free atmosphere
window channel that is transparent to atmospheric radiation
