McIDAS Training Session
Day 3 (May 24th) is an optional training day and thus requires that
the additional training fee (see the Information page) to
have been paid at registration. On this day, continental breakfast will take place
from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., and the McIDAS training will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If possible, attendees should bring their own laptop for training. If you are not able
to bring a laptop please contact us so we can help make suitable arrangements.
- The McIDAS Workshop is a full-day session that will cover new satellites
and new features in McIDAS-X and McIDAS-V. The new satellites section will include information about
GOES-16, GOES-17 and NOAA-20, as well as instructions for making and using local datasets in both
McIDAS-X and McIDAS-V. The new McIDAS-X features section will include exciting enhancements in version
2017.2, such as the Expanded Stretch Feature's bit-depth changes to increase the detail in displayed
imagery. The McIDAS-X section will also include new features planned for version 2018.1, e.g., a new
command to loop RGB images, support for GOES-17 and NOAA-20, and updates to GOES-16 and -17 GLM and
ABI L2 Products usage. The new McIDAS-V features section will include using VIIRS data to generate RGBs
and remove bowtie deletion lines, using GOES-16 L1b and L2 data to generate an Airmass RGB display and to
overlay GLM data on ABI imagery, and running a script to create a loop of realtime ABI imagery from a
remote ADDE server. The late afternoon session may also include a RealEarth segment where we explore
its newest features.
Note: SSEC reserves the right to modify or cancel the meeting
and/or training sessions if the number of registrations do not meet that needed to sufficiently
cover the costs. The registration deadline is March 30th, and any decision to cancel
the meeting and/or training will be made by April 13th. SSEC also reserves the right
to limit the number of attendees per site or organization due to limited space in the MUG Meeting
facilities (auditorium and computer labs).
