Day 3 (May 24th) is an optional training day and thus requires that the additional training fee (see the Information page) to have been paid at registration. On this day, continental breakfast will take place from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., and the McIDAS training will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The room location will be communicated during the meeting portion (days 1 and 2).

If possible, attendees should bring their own laptop, with McIDAS-X 2018.1 and McIDAS-V 1.7u1 installed, for training. If you are not able to bring a laptop please contact us so we can help make suitable arrangements.

  • The McIDAS Workshop is a full-day session that will cover new satellites and new features in McIDAS-X and McIDAS-V. The new satellites section will include information about GOES-16, GOES-17 and NOAA-20, as well as instructions for making and using local datasets in McIDAS-X. The new McIDAS-X features section will include exciting enhancements in versions 2017.2 and 2018.1, such as the Expanded Stretch Feature's bit-depth changes to increase the detail in displayed imagery, the new RGBDISP command to loop color images, support for GOES-17 and NOAA-20, updates to GOES-16 and -17 GLM list and display commands, and ABI L2 Products usage. The new McIDAS-V features section will include using VIIRS data to generate RGBs and remove bowtie deletion lines, investigating GOES-16 L1b data using various display types and formulas, and running a script to display a loop of realtime imagery from a remote ADDE server.
05/15/2018 Update: There will not be a RealEarth segment during the Thursday McIDAS Training Session. Instead, a longer RealEarth demonstration is planned during the meeting on Wednesday.
