McIDAS-X
for XP Fastrack Version 2007b
Software and Instructions
All changes in McIDAS-X 2007b have been tested by the SSEC MUG team;
however, a complete system test has not been performed. Therefore,
this version may not be as stable as a fully-supported upgrade, and
we recommend that you do NOT install it on a mission-critical workstation.
McIDAS-X 2007b is not supported by the MUG as it is still being evaluated.
However, it is likely that some or all of its changes will be included
in a future McIDAS-X upgrade. If you elect to install 2007b, we ask
that you notify the McIDAS
Help Desk if you encounter any bugs. Please be sure to mention
that you are running version 2007b.
Also note that if you plan to upgrade to 2007b from a version earlier
than 2007 (e.g., 2006), you must first read and perform the required
actions in the document titled McIDAS-X Version
2007 Upgrade Procedure, May 2007(pdf) that was included in your site's
May 2007 upgrade package.
Before installing Fastrack version 2007b, make sure you view the composite
list of Fastrack Software Changes. You
might want to print or download the file for future reference.
To obtain and install McIDAS-X 2007b, complete the following steps.
- Download the following files to the ~mcidas directory
on your McIDAS-X for XP workstation.
Note: The McIDAS-X installation will fail
if the names of the downloaded files do not exactly match those listed
below. If your web browser changes the names of the files during
download (e.g., mcidas2007b.tar.gz becomes mcidas2007b_tar.gz),
you must rename the files to those below before installing McIDAS-X.

- Examine the README file to read about the disk space requirements.
- To install McIDAS-X 2007b on your workstation, complete the instructions
in the section titled "Installing and Configuring McIDAS-X" in Chapter
1 of your McIDAS User's Guide,
but substitute "2007b" wherever "2007" appears.
