McIDAS-X 2011.1
Supported System Configurations

McIDAS-X 2011.1 is supported on systems running Apple Mac OS X, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Microsoft Windows 7 with SUA or Windows XP with SFU, Red Hat Linux or Sun Solaris.

The section below lists the software versions, by vendor, that McIDAS User Services tested - and fully supports - McIDAS-X 2011.1 on. In most cases, you should be able to install and run McIDAS-X 2011.1 on workstations running later editions in the same version series (e.g., if McIDAS-X is tested and supported on version 1.2.1, then versions 1.2.2, 1.2.3, etc. are also likely to work correctly). However, please keep in mind that McIDAS User Services is very limited in its ability to acquire and test versions other than those below and thus is limited in its ability to assist in troubleshooting problems that occur with other versions.

Vendor: Apple

Operating System Mac OS X 10.6.8 Intel
Fortran compiler gfortran: 4.6.0 (available for free at http://hpc.sourceforge.net)
C compiler gcc: 4.2.1 (packaged with Xcode)
X Server XQuartz 2.6.3 (available for free at http://xquartz.macosforge.org)

* Due to a Tcl/Tk incompatibility with OS X 10.6, the McIDAS-X GUI, Configuration GUI and ASK1 command are not available/supported on OS X systems.

** In order to build and install McIDAS-X on Mac OS X, you must install Xcode Development Tools on your workstation. Xcode Development Tools is included on the OS install media and is available from http://developer.apple.com.

Operating System HP-UX 11.11
Fortran compiler vendor: HP Fortran 90 version 3.1

Operating System Windows 7 Enterprise with Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) and SUA Community Complete Toolset
Fortran compiler g77: 3.3 (packaged with SUA)
C compiler gcc: 3.3 (packaged with SUA)
X Server we do not have a specific X server that we recommend for Windows 7; the two that are used most at SSEC are Xming (packaged with SUA Community Complete Toolset) and X-Win32; we have encountered problems with both, typically with cutting and pasting or when using cursor-based commands like CUR, PC or CM; if you encounter these types of problems you may find that setting or unsetting the -noXCursor flag in your $HOME/.mcidasrc file improves performance
-or-
Operating System Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and Services for UNIX (SFU) 3.5
Fortran compiler g77: 3.3 (packaged with SFU 3.5)
C compiler gcc: 3.3 (packaged with SFU 3.5)
X Server we do not have a specific X Server that we recommend for XP; we have tried many, but have encountered problems with all of them, especially when cutting and pasting; some work better than others; many people at SSEC use Exceed 6.1.1 (an older version), X-Win32 or MI/X (available for $25 from www.microimages.com)

* Because McIDAS-X for XP is a binary package, the Fortran and C compilers are needed on Windows XP systems only if you do local development on the workstation.

Vendor: Red Hat
