Cold and Colder
Canada had its first -50 F temperatures
of the winter season on January 7, shown in these two MODIS images below of
Hudson Bay. NASA's Aqua satellite provided these frosty winter glimpses.
If you think that's cold, just look at the MODIS image below showing Oymyakon, Siberia, at a frigid -74 F on January 6. The daily high temperature on Sunday, January 4 was -70 F. Oh my, that's cold! Note the warmth bleeding through the ice just off the southern coast of Siberia. Also on the 6th, it was -32 F in Littlefork, MN. That seems comfortable by comparison.
