Great Lakes Weather and Climate - Size of Lake Huron

backforward

Lake Huron
Lake Huron has the longest shoreline of the Great Lakes (3,827 miles / 6,157 km) due to the Georgian Bay in the northeast, Saginaw Bay in the southwest, and 30,000 islands. Huron receives water flowing from both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, but water passes through Lake Huron more quickly than the other lakes with a retention time of 22 years, mainly because it is shallower with an average depth of only 195 feet (59 m).

To measure the surface area of Lake Huron:

1. Use the contrast tools to see the shoreline more clearly.

2. Use the pencil tool to trace around the outer edge of the Lake.

3. Click the calculator tool to automatically calculate the area.

4. Submit answer and get feedback below.
