I have backed out AnimationControl.enableAnimationString()
and associated logic, and replaced it with
DisplayRenderer.setAnimationStringVisible().

This is now in the jar files at:

  ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/visad-2.0/untested/

FYI, Don tells me that the untested jar files are throwing
NegativeArraySizeExceptions from AREACoordinateSystem and
he's looking into it.
