The ER-2 flew only over Barrow. It made multiple passes over the coast and Barrow. The visible satellite image appeared to show clear sky with open water. However, the IR and 3.7 micron images show that some thin stratus were present over the open water and the coast. These stratus can be faintly seen in the visible image as either gray matter over the black open water, or a dark veil east of Barrow. A combination of nearly clear ice and water. Some stratus clouds were present on the eastern pass.
The trajectories to SHEBA ship show show the air a all levels from the surface to 6.0 km coming from a local area around the ship. The 9.0 km trajectory is different indicating the high level air came from central Asia to the southwest.
The trajectories to Barrow show the surface to 1.5 km air came from northernmost Canada across the Beaufort Sea, from the east. The 3.0 km air came from northern Canada to the southeast. The higher level, 6 and 9 km air came from the north Pacific Ocean looping through western Canada.
