Theme: Lamar Supercell
Target: Wray, CO
Chasers: John Haynes, Jill Schaefer, Chris Rozoff
Chase Vehicle: My old Chevy Prism
Data Contacts: Dan Lindsey and John Weaver
Brief Summary:
No photographs; only video. Incredible HP supercell today. Originated in
Limon. We intercepted SE of there and got stuck in dusty and impressive
inflow near Cheyenne Wells. The video is incredible! Probably 40 to 50
mph sustained. It right-moved into Lamar. We watched a low-level
mesocyclone develop north of Lamar and a tornado warning was issued.
Steve Hodanish got video of a very weak spinup and one that is very hard
to notice unless you were at the right spot at the right time so we missed
it. The RFD surged near Lamar and produced a very long and photogenic
arcus cloud. Once again, the video is spectacular. See me or John Haynes
for a view of it.
