My Dear Draper:

In order to get the latest intelligence from my son Charlie, I went to the PO this morning, and found your letter of yesterday.

No intimation was ever given Mr. Griggs, of any negotiations on your part, with any Publishers except what you wrote me about Robt. Clark & Co. All I said to Mr. G. about that was, that my understanding was thhe C. & Co. were desirous of publishing the work.

My last statement to him was that you were dressing it up, in some particulars, and when fully completed I thought you would forward the manuscript to him for his examination; as he had expressed his desire to make such examination in order to determine his best proposition to you.

I should, by all means, submit it, as the interview impressed me with the idea, he wanted to publish it. Indeed, it was not left a matter of conjecture, for he frankly stated such a desire.

The way is therefore open, and well-paved, for you to proceed with him in the matter.

The Blue Book did reach me in good order, -- is greatly prized, and has been acknowledged in a letter written yesterday or the day before.

Will Butler's Address be published?

Sincerely your friend,
S. V. Shipman
