My Dear Draper:

Your favor of the 21st is received, and in reply I may say -- the Electrotype (for such it will be) will be sent you on Thursday evening, without doubt, as it was so promised, and my business will be to see that it is performed.

In regard to the late Col. Larrabee -- I have an impression, that one of the officers of the command in which Col. L. was serving, once told me of some difficulty that resulted in the resignation of the latter. My present impression is, that it reflected somewhat upon his capacity for commanding the force under him. As to just how his resignation was brought about, my recollection is at fault, and I ought to speak no further. Col. E. A. Calkins once told me something about it. Col. Goodwin also, if my memory serves me. Better consult Calkins. In some haste,

Sincerely your friend
S. V. Shipman

Thanks for documents sent me from time to time. Prof. Butler dined with us after his Lecture before the Historical Society -- the day following, and left for Iowa.
