My Dear Draper:

I came up from Chicago last night on business and have been occupied all day, so that no opportunity was afforded me to call on you until about 8.45 P.M. when I found no lights at your house, and concluded that you were not at home, or had retired for the night.

It is a disappointment not to have met you; if only long enough to say "how are you?" I must return to Chicago at 10.45 tonight.

Take care of yourself. Come down to Chicago and stay a week with me.

How is "Kings Mountain"?

With kindest regards to Mrs. Draper, and the hope of seeing you soon, I remain

Very truly, etc.
