Lyman C. Draper, LL.D.
Madison, Wis.

My Dear Sir:

I have been favored, through the kindness of the late Gov. W. E. Smith, with a copy of the "Geology of Wisconsin" (4 Vols.) which I regard as a valuable and interesting work on that subject; and one which I desire to keep in my library.

My Son-in-law, Mr. Jas. K. Anderson, of Waukesha, has examined my copy, and is quite desirous of possessing the work for his own Library, as he is greatly interested in the science, and had pecuniary interests in some mining enterprises in that State.

Can you tell me how to go to work to obtain a copy of this work for him, -- by purchase or otherwise? He seems to want it very much.

I have a package of books and pamphlets for the Historical Soc'y. which I have delayed forwarding, under the expectation of receiving several vols. from Dr. E. S. Lane of 2116 Michigan Av. this city, to whom I gave the only copy of the 9th Vol. of your "Collections" which I have been favored with. Will try to hasten the matter a little and get the whole lot into your hands during the coming month.

How is your health, and that of Mrs. D. at this time? I wish you would come to Chicago, and spend a week with me -- at the same time get acquainted with some of our good people here.

I am very busy in the office, and can see no opening for me to slip away, for a few days of much needed rest.

Wishing your health and vigor to enable you to complete many of the historical and biographical works you have in hand, I remain Sincerely your friend,

S. V. Shipman
