My Dear Draper:

I send by Express, a package of Stuff, which may be of some value to the Historical Socy.

My explanation for sending such a meagre donation is simply that my time has been so occupied, very little attention coulkd be given to any thing outside of professional duties. You may expect something better next time.

It would be a rare pleasure to meet with the old friends who have stood by the Society, in tis times of danger, as well as prosperity, at the Annual Meeting, but duties here will prevent.

Wishing you a "Merry Christmas" and a "Happy New Year" and that "you may live long and be happy" I remain

Sincerely your friend
S. V. Shipman

H.B. Dawson seems to be in a bad way.
He has a very pathetic story for all who will listen.
