Chicago, Decr. 23d 1881

My Dear Draper:

Your of yesterday is at hand, and briefly I may say: -- to give the Supreme Court what the Judges want will require a rearrangement of the Plan, which I have not had time to make since my return.

The Judges wanted the 3 floor entire of the Plan you saw, but I think the law class of the University can be accommodated on that floor, and still give the Court what rooms they stipulate for.

If the Plan remains substantially as at first drawn, you could have the Basement story, and the principal, second, and fourth storys complete.

In any event I will not present any Plan, which dwarf the Historical Soc'y. It shall be the "Historical Soc'y Building" with accommodation for the Sup'e Court in it, if it be decided the Court shall go there.

You shall have as much Book room in the revised plan, as promised you in the other. Of course the cost of providing for the Court, must be added to what your wants required i.e. the building must be large -- cost more.

I wish you could come down here after Wednesday next and talk this matter up. The claims of the Court are enormous, but I will try what can be done to satisfy all concerned. In some haste,

Very Truly Yours,
S. V. Shipman

Better not take this to Col. Keyes -- (What I have written.)
