Religion fills the gaps in knowledge

Modern motives for religious belief
        knowledge gaps: existence, life, consciousness

As knowledge grows, religion shrinks

BUT, a critical event in science is imminent:
        an explanation and demonstration of consciousness
        we will know it is conscious based on our
                emotional connection with it

Then, machines much more intelligent than humans
        they will help with their own science and engineering

And the knowledge gap will start to grow
        science won't shrink but we will understand our world less
        because of our relationship with a mind beyond
          our comprehension
        we will fill this gap with religion
        the machine will become our god
