{"id":871,"date":"2016-08-12T15:18:44","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T20:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/aeri\/?page_id=871"},"modified":"2025-04-30T16:45:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T16:45:32","slug":"aeri-agilent-resistance-validation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/aeri\/kb\/procedures\/calibration-verification\/aeri-agilent-resistance-validation\/","title":{"rendered":"AERI Resistance Validation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Equipment Required<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Large phillips screwdriver<\/li>\n<li>Ball driver set<\/li>\n<li>Calibrated resistor kit (2 boxes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fcf8e3;\">\n<h3>Precaution<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The resistor boxes are sensitive to large\u00a0changes in ambient temperature (e.g. heating from direct sunlight). \u00a0It is best to conduct\u00a0the test with the boxes in a sheltered, stable thermal environment. \u00a0For best results, place the boxes in the location\/environment where the test will be conducted about an hour prior to the test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Procedure<\/h3>\n<h4>Hardware setup<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Stop data collection:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Press ctrl-c up to 3 times in the black Cygwin window to terminate ingest.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Remove the front panel of the front-end enclosure<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the ABB and HBB connectors from the 1.5ft extension cables going to the blackbodies<\/li>\n<li>Connect the ABB and HBB connectors to the respective ABB and HBB resistor boxes and lay the boxes on the bottom of the enclosure.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Software setup<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Ensure that instrument is in <kbd>RS_3<\/kbd> mode. \u00a0The test will not work in <kbd>3body<\/kbd> mode<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that <kbd>calibKit.connected=false<\/kbd> in the file <kbd>c:\\E-AERI\\FTSW_EAERI.Config<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li>Delete the file <kbd>c:\\E-AERI\\Data\\EAERIHouseKeeping.hk<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li>Run <kbd>FTSW_EAERI_GUI.bat<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li>In the bottom panel, enter\n<ul>\n<li><kbd># of measurements = <strong>1<\/strong><\/kbd><\/li>\n<li><kbd># of coadded scans = <strong>9999<\/strong><\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <kbd>Start Acquisition<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li>Click <kbd>Stop Acquistion<kbd> after about 15 minutes<\/kbd><\/kbd>\n<ul>\n<li>Verify that the resistance look OK as they are being acquired (see Table 1.)<\/li>\n<li>20 records are needed for the analysis. \u00a0A new record is acquired every ~30 s, so the test should take ~10 mins + initialization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Analysis<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"12\">\n<li>In a cygwin window\n<ul>\n<li><kbd>cd \/cygdrive\/c\/E-AERI\/Data<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li><kbd>python txt2hkspc.py EAERIHouseKeeping.hk --resistance<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Transfer the created file <kbd>EAERIHouseKeeping_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSSS.csv<\/kbd> to a computer with <em>MS Excel<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Open\u00a0<kbd>EAERIHouseKeeping_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSSS.csv<\/kbd> in <em>Excel<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li><kbd>Select all<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li><kbd>Copy<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/6wokd97rxkyluiu\/AERI_Resistance_Check_SNXXX_YYYY-MM-DD.xls?dl=0\"><kbd>AERI_Resistance_Validation_Template.xls<\/kbd><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Paste data into <kbd>Bring in AERI HK File<\/kbd> worksheet<\/li>\n<li>Save as <kbd>AERI_Resistance_Check_SNXXX_YYMMDD.xls<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check to see if the results pass in the <kbd>Resistance Check Summary<\/kbd> worksheet\n<ul>\n<li>If all six thermistor values are <span style=\"color: #008000;\">IN Spec<\/span> (green), then the test passes<\/li>\n<li>If any of the thermistor values are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">OUT of Spec<\/span> (red), then the test fails and should be repeated\n<ul>\n<li>Check to see if the 20 records used are stable or drifting (the average is used in the calculation)<\/li>\n<li>If the values are drifting, then the temperature of the environment of the resistor boxes may not be stable enough<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the test for a longer time, in a more stable thermal environment if necessary<\/li>\n<li>If needed, <kbd>txt2hkspc.py<\/kbd> can be modified to output a larger number records than 20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Hardware packup<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"17\">\n<li>Disconnect the resistor boxes<\/li>\n<li>Reconnect the ABB and HBB connectors to each extension cable<\/li>\n<li>Replace the front panel onto the AERI front-end<\/li>\n<li>Resume data collection<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Table\u00a01.
