SSEC has been designing and building satellite ingestors since the mid-1970s. The first generation was the SSEC Desktop Ingestor (SDI), which were manufactured between 1997 and 2005. The SSEC Data Ingestor (SDI-104) replaced the 1st-generation SDIs beginning in 2006. The next generation &#8211; the SDI GRB Appliance &#8211; is the third generation of satellite ingestors produced by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"mcidas-box-group mcidas-box-group-2-columns \" >\n<div  class=\"mcidas-box \" >\n<h3>Primary Functions<\/h3>\n<div class=\"mcidas-box-inner\">\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"padding-top: 15px;\" valign=\"top\">The SDI GRB Appliance has four primary functions &#8211; Ingest, Notify, Distribute and Monitor.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Ingest<\/strong>: Data ingest in the SDI is accomplished using the CSPP Geo GRB software to create mission-standard netCDF-4 files.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Notify<\/strong>: Open source RabbitMQ software is used by the SDI to notify data consumers when data becomes available at one of its standard network interfaces.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Distribute<\/strong>: The SDI supports SFTP and NFS as standard output interfaces. Optionally the SDI supports the McIDAS ADDE data interface.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Monitor<\/strong>: The SDI can be monitored using Check_MK for standard and custom properties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The SDI GRB Appliance is not a general purpose server.
