January 2011

McIDAS-V

2010 was a big year for the McIDAS-V team. We emerged out of "beta" with our official version 1.0 release in September, unveiled the new McIDAS-V website, and conducted user training sessions at the McIDAS Users' Group (MUG) Meeting in Madison in October. We traveled around the world giving oral and poster presentations about McIDAS-V, most notedly to Atlanta at the AMS Annual Meeting in January, to Monterey at the ITOVS Study Conference in April, to Spain at the EUMETSAT Satellite Conference in September, to Annapolis at the AMS Satellite Meteorology Conference in September, and to San Francisco at the AGU Fall Meeting in December.

The Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society in January 2011 is another venue with strong McIDAS-V participation. We will give oral and poster presentations in conference sessions and also display McIDAS-V to interested users in the SSEC exhibitor booth. Several members of our development team will be in Seattle to promote McIDAS-V and to meet with users. The development team is also doing early year priority planning, taking suggestions and recommendations from our user community, and matching the programming needs with developers and project funding.  2011 will no doubt be another exciting year for McIDAS-V. We will provide periodic updates on these topics as 2011 progresses.
