Break Room Decor

by Mark Hobson

Hello All;

You may have noticed: changes have come to the Break Room.

The AOSS Building 4th Floor Break Room is now displaying some of the photos and artwork that I received since announcing (much too long ago) that we would be using "local" talent to decorate the walls.

This is intended to be a very open and ongoing project. I'm happy to act as "curator" and do the selecting/hanging/removing as need be. Requests (reasonable requests) for printing and mounting on foam core can be expensed through my project number. Just bring your work/ideas to me. We'll make it happen.

On the other hand, I'm not the world's best decorator. I can line things up, but sometimes a pleasing display can be a challenge. Therefore, I am extremly open to all comments, suggestions, re-designs, anything that will improve the display. Don't be shy -- let's make it the best it can be.

As it stands right now, I put simple name cards identifying the artist near their work. These cards can be improved to include such items as "Title," "Medium/Technology Used," and contact info for the artist. Or anything else that is suggested and makes sense.

My hope is that the artworks displayed at least loosely reflect the work that goes on the building. Scientific images (if beautiful) are more than welcome. Many of the images that have been mounted as of now are only tangentially related to science, but it's hard to turn down gorgeous nature shots!

I envision this display as being of a constantly self-renewing nature. Nothing will remain permanently on the wall (unless you can make a case for it). I'm hoping that many people submit many works and that the wall remains vibrant and ever-changing. Let's fill the room with color.

Thanks for your patience. Let me know how we can improve the display and how we can put your art up for everyone to see.

Questions, comments, (polite) demands? Come to my office, Room 1007, or email me.
