Web Considerations

by Bill Bellon

SSEC now has a YouTube channel. Select 720p (bottom right of video) and then click on the Expand button. (This video was created by uploading a 1024x768 Quicktime movie - Pete is going to play around with creating 1920x1080 (1080p) movies for uploading to see how they look on Youtube).

This is an experiment but the idea is rather than hosting our own videos, why not use an SSEC YouTube channel (basically a branded YouTube page which hosts all of our videos) to distribute the interesting rooftop videos we are saving, and other possible videos of interest.

Advantages:

  1. easy to use and setup, no maintenance on our end
  2. streaming
  3. wider exposure via Youtube than our own website would get
  4. public interaction (i.e., commenting) - users will more  likely comment on YouTube videos rather than sign up for an account on a custom gallery that we host on our website so that they can comment.

If you have any other videos/animations that you think are interesting and appropriate (i.e., long satellite animations ...) please email either me or Mark Hobson. The plan is to use the YouTube channel for public outreach and education regarding our work, in addition to using our Facebook Page and of course our website.
