New AMS Policy on Open Access

The sharing of information and research results has always been the status quo in the atmospheric sciences, so the obstacles to open access of formally published papers has seemed at odds with how we do business.

But last year, the American Meteorological Society changed its stance on open access to its published articles.

Under the new policy, authors can host a copy of the final, published PDF of their articles on their web sites AND the library, as the institutional repository of that work, can also host a copy of the final, published version of the work.   The posted article must comply with the following conditions:

The Library will, in the very near future, begin to include your work, as published by the AMS, in its publications repository in the final PDF form. This is a huge stride in making it possible for us to share, more broadly, the intellectual output of our scientists and faculty and to further our educational mission. The Library's pubs database is one of the most heavily accessed features on its website.

OWL Sighting in the Library
