Have an Accident? Call the Police!

When you have an accident driving for the University, always call the police. Whether you are in Madison, another state or another country always call the police.

When the police are not called, and the University driver is at fault, we could potentially end up paying much more than we should if there is prior damage to the other vehicle. Without a police report noting the location and severity of the damage, Risk Management must pay the claim.

When the police are not called and the other driver is at fault, it may happen that suddenly the other driver claims we were the offending party. Without documentation to back up the University driver, we may have difficulty defending ourselves.

Always call the police when involved in an accident and you are driving on University business. For questions, contact Debbie Beich at dbeich@bussvc.wisc.edu, or by phone at 608-262-8926.
