GSICS Annual Meeting

INVITATION

Pyle Center in Spring

Please join us for the 2017 Global Space-based Inter-Calibration System Joint Meeting to be held 20-24 March 2017 at the Pyle Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Plenary sessions will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. The Research Working Group and Data Working Group will have breakout sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. A poster reception will be held Monday evening with a limited number of posters accommodated. If you would like to present a poster, please provide a title and short abstract when registering.

Lunches will be on your own, except for Wednesday. There are many local alternatives, from food carts to formal restaurants, all within walking distance. On Wednesday, because of the tight schedule, a box lunch will be provided (fee of $14). The group dinner will be held on Tuesday evening at the University Club (fee of $38). A one-time charge of $3 for handling must be included in the credit card payment. Cash will not be accepted at check-in for the meeting. Reservation for the banquet and box lunch must be made by 20 March 2017, and cannot be refunded. Visa Letters, if needed, will be provided on request. Please contact Maria Vasys after registration.

About GSICS

The Global Space-based Inter-Calibration System (GSICS) is an international collaborative effort initiated in 2005 by WMO and CGMS to monitor, improve and harmonize the quality of observations from operational weather and environmental satellites of the Global Observing System (GOS). GSICS aims at ensuring consistent accuracy among space-based observations worldwide for climate monitoring, weather forecasting, and environmental applications. This is achieved through a comprehensive calibration strategy which involves:GSICS Structure

GSICS delivers calibration corrections needed for accurately integrating data from multiple observing systems into products, applications and services.

GSICS contributes to the integration of satellite data within the WMO Integrated Global Observing Systems (WIGOS) and within the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO).

In accordance to the GSICS Implementation Plan GSICS relies on a GSICS Coordination Centre (GCC), several GSICS Processing and Research Centres (GPRC) operated by each satellite operator, and Calibration Support Segments (CSS) such as field sites and laboratories. Activities are overseen by a GSICS Executive Panel assisted by a Research Working Group (GRWG) and a Data Management Working Group (GDWG).

The GRWG and GDWG advise the Executive Panel and assist in the planning and implementation of GSICS research and data management activities respectively. The GRWG consists of scientists, and the GDWG of data management experts, representing the participating agencies.
