Wisconsin-Madison\/SSEC), Joerg Schulz (EUMETSAT), Remy Roca (LEGOS), Brian Kahn (NASA\/JPL), and  Graeme Stephens (GEWEX and A-CCP)  \n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 28\u201330 October 2019, a workshop\nwill be held to discuss priorities for the future direction of the\nInternational Satellite Cloud Climatology Project \u00ad\u2013 Next Generation (ISCCP-NG),\nwhich will be held at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. The local organization of\nthe workshop is led by EUMETSAT in coordination with partners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Earth observing capabilities\nfrom geostationary orbit have advanced substantially over recent years. With\nthe launch of GOES-17 in 2018, the global geostationary constellation is now\ncomprised of sensors with 10 or more channels, viewing the earth at sub-hourly\ntime scales and with resolutions finer than 5 km. &nbsp;With the launch of\nMeteosat Third Generation (MTG) in 2021, the global geostationary constellation\nwill have 10 common spectral channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/meetings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2019\/06\/hemi-strip-1024x172.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/meetings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2019\/06\/hemi-strip-1024x172.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/meetings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2019\/06\/hemi-strip-300x50.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/meetings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2019\/06\/hemi-strip-768x129.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/meetings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2019\/06\/hemi-strip.png 1803w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a clear need to\nexploit this new Earth observing capability. However, the scientific needs will\nvary widely among potential users of current geostationary data sets, and an\neventual ISCCP-NG data record, in addition to the programmatic priorities among\nsponsoring agencies and international partners.
