Weather satellite captures 2017 eclipse

August 21, 2017 | Eric Verbeten

The Aug. 2017 eclipse over North America was captured by NOAA’s GOES-16 satellite. GOES-16 captured images of the eclipse every five minutes, from more than 20,000 miles away. The video was compiled by UW-Madison’s Space Science and Engineering Center and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies.

GOES-16 data are preliminary non-operational.
