Ice Drilling Design and Operations (IDDO):
Come meet the drillers and engineers
who collect ice and rock core samples from the polar regions helping to
discover information about past and predict future climate. See the
scientific ice coring equipment used in the Arctic and Antarctic.
SSEC Portable Atmospheric Research Center (SPARC):
Visit the the vehicle that we use to take some of our instruments into the field. Learn about
lidars, interferometers, and weather balloons.
Weather and Climate Applets: Computer-based modules from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Studies (CIMSS) to explore the atmosphere and get answers to questions about why there are seasons or phases of the moon, how to grow a snowflake, thunderstorm or tornado!
Weather in a Tank:From the McKinley Ocean Research Group, learn how
the motion of water and air affects our climate on Earth.
3D Globe: Watch satellite imagery and other earth science visualizations created by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) to learn more about our planet and its atmosphere.
Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (AMRC): Learn what it’s like to work and live at the South Pole? Find out what scientists are learning about weather of the region (and the world) by studying these cold regions. Drop in for a presentation by an Antarctic researcher.
Tours to the roof: Every 30 minutes starting at 10:00am. The last tour will leave at 1:30pm. You'll have an opportunity to view the beautiful Madison skyline and learn more about the satellite dishes and instruments on the roof!
