16th ASSFTS Workshop
22-24 May 2012
University of Wisconsin—Madison

Meeting Description

The 16th International Workshop on Atmospheric Science from Space using Fourier Transform Spectrometry (ASSFTS16) was held in Madison, Wisconsin, USA from 22-24 May 2012 at Pyle Center, located in the heart of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. A final agenda is now available.

The aim of the ASSFTS16 workshop is to discuss new results and to promote and coordinate the international initiatives in the field of Earth observations from space with FTS instrumentation. FTS is a proven technique that has led to comprehensive and accurate observations of the Earth atmosphere that have revolutionized this research field, as well as observations for operational meteorology, weather forecasting, trace gas monitoring and climate studies in the last few years. With these instruments it is now possible to produce daily 3D images of the atmospheric composition with horizontal and vertical details that allow the development and the validation of new chemical and climate models with increasing performance. With emerging detector technology advancement, high throughput sensitivity and high performance calibration FTS measurements from geosynchronous orbits will further transform a scientist's ability to decipher small scale variability with high temporal resolution.
