Remote Sensors and Data Collection - Dwell Rate

backforward

Below is a color enhanced MODIS thunderstorm image with a strong Enhanced-V signature. The actual Dwell Rate, or Sampling Time for MODIS at the resolution shown (250 m) is 166 micro-seconds.

Explore how a shorter sensor Dwell Rate will introduce noise in the output imagery. Part of this noise is a "carryover effect" of previously sensed data, since the shorter sampling time does not allow the instrument enough time to fully clear out "old data."
