Operating System Support Plans for McIDAS-X
For versions distributed in 2021, McIDAS-X is supported on systems running Apple macOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Microsoft Windows 10 with Windows Subsystem for Linux. The section below lists the 2022 operating system support plans for each vendor supported by McIDAS User Services. Please check the plans for your current operating system(s) and contact the McIDAS Help Desk if you have any questions or concerns about the plans. Refer to the current Supported System Configurations for the currently supported platforms and versions.
Operating Systems for 2022
Vendor: Apple
Support macOS 11 on Mac computers with an Intel processor.
We will evaluate 12 when it’s supported at the University of Wisconsin SSEC, and sunset support for 11 when 12 is added.
We will evaluate supporting McIDAS on Mac computers with Apple M1 silicon chips when GCC officially supports its compilers on Apple Silicon Macs.

McIDAS-X 2021.1 includes full support on systems running Windows 10 with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Vendor: Red Hat
Continuing support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x Intel and 8.x Intel.
Historical Note: McIDAS-X is no longer supported on IRIX, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Windows XP or Windows 7 systems. It was last supported on IRIX in McIDAS-X 2010.1, AIX in McIDAS-X 2011.1, HP-UX and Windows XP in McIDAS-X 2012.2, Solaris x86 in McIDAS-X 2015.1, Solaris SPARC in McIDAS-X 2016.2 and Windows 7 in McIDAS-X 2019.1.
