Quiz Image

Description:

This RCO implements a very small subset of the functionality of the Quiz Image application, developed at SSEC.

Specifically, it allows a user to attempt to identify a feature within an image by clicking on that feature. The instructor can specify via an XML configuration file some text to show when the user clicks correctly or incorrectly, and some "extra" informative text to display once the correct answer is revealed. The instructor can also specify the color to outline the feature with, and a maximum number of attempts, after which the answer and "extra" text is shown.

Now for the downside. In order for the RCO to know the location of the feature in question, a set of points must be passed to the RCO as a large applet parameter. This set of points must be generated using the QuizImage Builder front-end application. Instructions on how to obtain and run this application on your image can be found here.

Example use of Quiz Image RCO

How to use

  1. Find or create the image you want to use for this exercise.
  2. Run the QuizImage Builder application on this image, generating a set of points which define the feature within the image.
  3. Create an HTML file which will reference and load this RCO. Cut-and-paste the sample applet tag below and insert at the location in the HTML file you want to use the RCO. Then swap in the set of points you generated above for the points shown in the example snippet within the parameter tag labelled "points".
  4. Download the example XML file below, rename it, and populate it with data appropriate to your use.
  5. Download the RCO by right-clicking the download link below and choosing "Save Link Target As..."
  6. Edit the applet tag parameters to reference your new file names, and test.
