Hardware checks:

Physical check of instrument:

  • Open back-end access panel, check for any damage, debris, precipitation accumulation

Inspection of Ambient Blackbody (ABB):

  • [If there is evidence that there was precipitation incursion into the mirror drum, e.g. blowing snow, much precipitation accumulation in the front-end enclosure] Remove the ABB (lower blackbody).  Inspect inside the ABB with a flashlight for precipitation or debris accumulation.
    • If precipitation is present, send photos to mentor, then place blackbody aperture down in a warm room and let dry.  Replace the ABB, ensuring that it’s flush with the alignment buttons.
