PG&E Power outages 10 October 2019

Posted: October 10, 2019

As part of their efforts to mitigate wildfires caused by winds sparking wildfiles, Pacific Gas & Electric continued their efforts on 10 October to shut off power across Northern California. At ~4:30am CDT (2:30am PDT), poweroutage.us showed ~670,000 customers without power.

The areas shown are similar to the Pacific Gas and Electric outage website taken at approximately the same time

Most of the outages were centered in northern California. A screenshot taken at 7:45am CDT from poweroutage.us showed the still over 600,000 customers without power

S-NPP was fortunate to catch a clear image of Northern California at ~2:36am PDT, as seen in the I05 (11μm) imagery showed below.

As can be seen in a comparison shot from just 4 days previous by S-NPP, there were large swaths from Red Bluff to Folsom, CA as well as in the Clear Lake area and south of Sacramento

It is expected that there will be outages again depending on weather conditions, such as low humidity and strong winds.
