MTG FCI ADDE Servers

This is the first official release of the MTG FCI ADDE servers for McIDAS-X. You must be running McIDAS-X v. 2022.1 or later in order for the data to be used in McIDAS-X, although 2024.1 is preferred. The MTG LI lightning servers will follow in a future release of McIDAS. Follow these instructions to install the python FCI ADDE servers:

  1. Log on to the workstation as user mcidas.

  2. Download the appropriate tar file for your Operating System and place in ~mcidas.
  3. Uncompress the tar file. In ~mcidas,

    Type:   tar zxvf pyadde2024.1-Linux.tar.gz

  4. Link the servers to ~mcidas using the commands below.

    Type:   cd pyadde2024.1

    Type:   source bin/activate

    Type:   ./make_mcx_symlinks

  5. Running this package on macOS requires disabling the code signing security check. On macOS only, as a user with Administrator privileges, complete the following steps.
    • In a terminal, type:  spctl developer-mode enable-terminal
    • Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy
      • Scroll down to “Developer Tools”
      • Authenticate (lock icon in lower left) and tick the checkbox next to Terminal.

  6. In a McIDAS session as user mcadde for remote datasets, or as a local user for local datasets, create the datasets.

    Type:   DSSERVE ADD GROUP/DESCRIPTOR FCIP TYPE=IMAGE DIRFILE=/data_location/*

    Separate datasets should be created for the full-disk imagery and for the high resolution imagery. For example:  

    • DSSERVE ADD MTG/FD FCIP TYPE=IMAGE DIRFILE=/data/fci/*FDHSI*
    • DSSERVE ADD MTG/FD FCIP TYPE=IMAGE DIRFILE=/data/fci/*HRFI*

Our current data are netCDF files with the following file name format according to the MTG FCI L1 PUG:
W_XX-EUMETSAT-Darmstadt,IMG+SAT,MTI1+FCI-1C-RRAD-FDHSI-FD–CHK-TRAIL—NC4E_C_EUMT_20200406010600_GTT_DEV_20200406005000_20200406010000_N__T_0006_0041.nc
