With each Earth Day, and each passing year, we see our planet with more and more clarity.

This year, 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and our greater environmental awareness to protect and preserve our planet for generations to come.

The slideshow above features satellite imagery of Earth dating back to the first Earth Day in 1970. With a few exceptions in the early years, the Space Science and Engineering Center’s satellite data archives include images of our planet over the last five decades.

Truly a global cause, our archives and imagery come from satellite partners around the globe. Together, they serve as a meteorological and climatological record of our ever-changing world.
